Crime and College Football: A Troubling Relationship
When one thinks of college football, images of packed tailgates, rowdy student sections, and filled stadiums come to mind. Don’t forget the piles of merchandise branded with a team’s logo that fly off the shelves at university book stores across the country. It has become a college tradition for students to rally around their school’s football teams.

Days after birth of his daughter, Rothman wins inaugural ASP Big Wave Tour event
PICO ALTO, Peru – In a historic moment overseas, Makua Rothman won the inaugural ASP Big Wave Tour’s first event Thursday morning. Claiming the Billabong Pico Alto in Peru, Rothman dominated the field of 24 en route to a score of 27.33 in the final round. Makuakai claims this title just two days after the birth of his daughter.

Chad Owens earns CFL Player of the Week Award
TORONTO, Canada- Former University of Hawaii All-American Chad Owens was named the Canadian Football League Special Teams Player of the Week Tuesday. The Rough Rider alumni earned the award after his 83 yard punt return for a touchdown in a 45-21 loss to Winnipeg last week. Owens finished his first game of the season with 8 receptions for 87 yards, giving him a total of 163 all-purpose yards.

Eugene, Oregon- The Oregon Ducks softball team (41-5) looks to continue its winning ways as the team welcomes the California Golden Bears (34-13) to Howe Field for a three game series. Oregon is coming off a big series sweep of the Lousiana Lafayette Ragin Cajuns, but the Ducks cannot take the Golden Bears lighty.

My name is Matthew Ishii, and I'm currently a Junior at the University of Oregon. I'm a Journalism major and a Business minor. I hope to one day work with sports and business. I was born and raised in Hawaii.

I have previously interned at KHON2 News in the Sports Department and was a member of Duck TV Sports, the University of Oregon's student produced television station. I have also worked at Waikiki Foot Locker for the last two summers, and plan on returning there again this summer.

In my free time, I enjoy watching football and boxing, lifting weights, going to the beach, and reading sports books.
